Dustin Poirier’s wife visited Conor McGregor in dressing room after UFC 257 to thank ‘Notorious’ for $500,000 donation
Dustin Poirier’s wife paid a visit to Conor McGregor after her husband’s victory over ‘The Notorious’ at UFC 257 to thank him for the donation to their charity.
McGregor was stunned by Poirier on Fight Island last Saturday as the American sealed a stunning second-round stoppage to avenge his defeat to the Irishman in 2014.
Unlike some of McGregor’s previous rivalries, there was no bad blood in the build-up or aftermath of the Poirier fight – and he made a $500,000 donation to his opponent’s ‘Good Fight Foundation’ charity as part of the deal.
The charity was set up by Poirier and his wife to help the fight against food poverty, health care issues and environmental disasters in their hometown of Louisiana.
In new footage released by the UFC, Poirier’s wife, Jolie, can be seen visiting a magnanimous McGregor’s dressing room after his defeat to express her gratitude for his generosity.
“I just wanted to say thank you so much,” she said.
McGregor responded: “Congratulations tonight, he fought a great fight.”
And Poirier’s wife said: “Thank you for everything. It’s going to help change a lot of people’s lives.”
Although McGregor promised a ‘masterpiece’, it was Poirier who showcased his world class ability by taking McGregor down, grinding him against the fence and then outboxing the 32-year-old.
Due to the fact he was knocked out, McGregor will have to serve a mandatory 45-day medical suspension to allow his body to recover.
However, the on-site physician saw fit to also issue a 180-day suspension owing to any potential fibula or tibia injury in his right leg.
Should a doctor clear ‘The Notorious’ in this time frame, though, he will be able to return.
