Billy Joe Saunders ‘has got the mind of Floyd Mayweather’ and can beat Canelo Alvarez, roars trainer Mark Tibbs
Billy Joe Saunders’ trainer Mark Tibbs has claimed his man has the ‘mind of Floyd Mayweather’ and can use it to beat Canelo Alvarez.
The pair have agreed terms to meet on May 8, providing the Mexican first comes through his fight with Avni Yildirim on February 27.
Canelo currently holds the WBA and WBC super-middleweight titles while Saunders is the WBO champion.
Tibbs told White and Jordan on talkSPORT: “Billy Joe Saunders has got the mind of Floyd Mayweather.
“He’s got beautiful feet, he’s got brilliant hand speed and he’s got one of the best IQs in world boxing today.
“So why hasn’t he got a chance?”
Mayweather himself previously heaped praise on Saunders when he was initially set to face Canelo last year.
Speaking at an event in Sheffield, Floyd gave his thoughts on the UK boxing scene.
He asked the crowd: “Don’t you guys have Kell Brook? Kell Brook’s a helluva fighter.
“Billy Saunders is from the UK also.
“Me myself, I think Kell Brook is one of the best fighters from the UK and I also think Billy Saunders is one of the best fighters from the UK.”
When asked about Canelo vs Saunders, Mayweather replied: “Anything can happen in the sport of boxing…
“But he must know just because in my fight with Canelo, I used certain angles– Canelo, I can tell he’s been watching my tapes, I can tell Canelo has been studying my moves.
“Canelo fought GGG, he beat [Sergey] Kovalev so Canelo’s making a lot of noise in the sport of boxing, but I don’t want Billy Saunders to overlook Canelo.
“I think it’s gonna be a helluva fight.”
